Studies on Extraction and Determination of Metal Salts with Methyl Isobutyl Ketone. III : Extraction and Determination of Oxine Complex Salts of Some Metals

Extraction of oxine complex salts of zinc and magnesium, which are hard to extract quantitatively by other organic solvents, and extraction of oxine salt of beryllium, whose extraction is also difficult, were carried out by using methyl isobutyl ketone as the extraction solvent. Oxine complex salts of zinc and magnesium were easily extracted by methyl isobutyl ketone from alkaline solution with ammonia, and the extract solution showed maximum absorption at 395 mμ for zinc and at 357 mμ for magnesium, and the amount of zinc or magnesium and its absorbance were in linear relation-ship. Fluorescence measurement was also carried out to obtain fluorescence characteristics Maximum emission appeared at 540〜545 mμ for zinc and at 525 mμ for magnesium. Beryllium was well extracted by methyl isobutyl ketone from weakly ammonia solution containing a small amount of ammonium tartrate, and the extract solution showed the strongest fluorescence and its maximum emission appeared at 530 mμ The amount of beryllium and its fluorescence intensity are approximately in linear relationship.
