Preparation and Characterization of Vanadyl-Phthalocyanine Ultrathin Films Grown on KBr and KCl by Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Ultrathin films of vanadyl-phthalocyanine (VOPc) have been grown heteroepitaxially on cleaved (001) faces of KBr and KCl molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Their structures were investigated in situ by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). VOPc molecules form a single domain square lattice (3√<2/2>×3√<2/2>-R45°) on a KBr substrate, whereas two equivalent square lattice (√<5>×√<5>-R±26.6°) on a KCl substrate. The molecular distances between neighboring molecules have been found to be-about 14Å in both cases.
