Crystal Growth of Tl_2Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_<10>(Tl-2223) Superconductors

Growth of Tl_2Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_<10> superconductor crystals has been investigated using a mixed state of solid with melt. Single crystals are grown by soaking and slow cooling in a very narrow temperature range between 900 and 870℃ in a sealed Au capsule. The obtained crystals are in a form of thick plates, and their maximum size is 0.8×O.8×0.4 mm^3, with a plane of (001). The chemical composition is determined by an electron-probe microanalyzer to be Tl_<1.91-2.00>Ba_<2.03-2.08>Ca_<1.70-1.79>Cu_<3.03-3.13>O_<10>, where oxygen stoichiometry is assumed. The as-grown crystals show a sharp superconductive transition at 115 K.
