For finding illegal access in an early stage, detecting scans for collection ulanerable information of network nodes in early stage is extremaly important. Tricky scans by long interval or randam order are difficult to distinguished from normal communication packets. Furthermore, due to networks without owning medas jointly are becoming common, current NIDSs (Network based Intrusion Detection System) are limited to monitoring traffic only in local areas. This leads to an insufficiency of scans information that can be collected, and eventually difficult to detect scans. In this paper, we propose a new scan detection method based on cooperation of distributed NIDSs. We show its effectiveness by experiments on operation networks.
