Two-rnelt phase separation in the liquid Sn -Stage systerta XV2lS investigated by uaaeasuring thevelocity of sound. The newly detertnined phase boundary is characterized by the critical point at865i3'C at 33:l:0.5 at.'7 Se and has a critical index close to 173. Itis found that the velocity ofsound in an alloy with a miscibility gap bends down as the phase boundary is approached frotnabove, while it increases linearly with lowering teuaaperattmre in an miscible alloy. The Fixmantheory can satisfactorily explain the critical sound wave propagartion.
