Dynamic Spin Correlation Function of the Alternating Spin-1/2 Antiferromagnetic Chain with Competing Interactions

Dynamic spin correlation function of the S : l /2 antiferromagnetic spin chain with alternatingnearest neighbor and connpeting next nearest neighbor interactions is sttrdied using the ntrmer-ical diagonalization method. We find characteristics of the correlation ftunction, which are theconsequence of the dimer order in the ground state: (1) A typical singlet-triplet gap is observedand stmch a lowest-energy triplet state is f'ound to forrn a bound state, showing strong peaksbelow a contirrtrum band with weak btnt distinct upper and lower boundaries, (2) The intensityof the bottnd state shows a qtmite different wavevector-dependence from that of the correspondingintensity at the lower botrndary in the ustral antiferronuagnet. These features are examined bythe variational calculation and are favorably discussed in connection with recent experimentalresults of neutron inelastic scattering in the inorganic spin-Peierls systern, CuGeO3.
