Resonanat Photoemission Study of Electronic Structure of Rare-Earth Sesquioxides

Electronic strttctures of ten kinds of' r?tre-earth sesquioxide single cryst?t1s (Rz03; R:La, Pr,Nd, Srn, Btu, Gd, lEr, Till, Yb and Ltr) were investigated Icy 4d-4.f' resonatnt photoetaaissiontaaeasurenuent. The inforrnation of the electronic strtrcttrre, especially the relative binding energyof' 4f state and O 2p valence band, xvas obtained. The 4d-4.f resouuant photoernission spectraof valence b;xnd can be explained Toy tnultiplet structtrre of' 4 f"" ' final statte and the mixingbetween 44' and O 2p. The O 2p valence barnd has Ad-if reson?tnce in La3O3 that is in 21 typical4f' case. La 5d character is considered to uaaix to the O 2p valence 1.cand.
