Temporal and spatial properties were investigated for the recently discovered photoinducedinsulator to metal transition in Pr0.7Ca0.3lVInO3. Time evolution of the photocurrent uponirradiation xvith a laser pulse and its laser-power and applied-voltage dependence were measuredand analyzed. Irradiation patterns were controlled and sanaple length and width were varied. Two cornponents of the photocurrent were separated. The slow component which was concludedto be critical for the transition, was suggested to originate from srnall rnetallic "islands" beingcreated within the electrode gap by the irradiation. lVIeasuretnents done on samples with thecontrolled width gave proof of the shrinking of the conduction path with decreasing current, supporting the picture of the conduction path being under stress frona the sttrrounding chargeordered, antiferromagnetic bulk and being sustained by the ctrrrent. Lack of dependence of theresistance on the sanapJe length was observed, indicating that the ma.jor contribtrtion to thevoltage drop is determined by some "neck" in the conduction path.
