Emission and excitation spectra and luminescence lifetimes of ZnF.:Mn", (Zn,Mll)F2 and MnF., all specimens in powder form, are observed at various temperaturesbetween 2 and 300 K. The emission band of ZnF.: Mn" is located at 583 nrn at 300 Kand 593 nm at temperatures below 80 K. The feature of the emission spectrum of(Zn. .Mn..)F. at l6K is unchanged up to .X'=0.8. In MnF., the luminescenceoriginates from Mn" Tons perturbed by small concentrations of Zn", Ca" andother impurities. The intrinsic luminescence of pure MnF. is unobservable even at 2K. The excitation spectra of ZnF :Mn", (Zn, Mn)F.and MnF.are extremely similarto each other because the electronic levels of the Mn" ion is determined predomi-nantly in the cluster [MnF.]' with a slightly distorted octahedral coordination.[ ZnFlexcite- ll tionll.:Mn", (Zn, Mn)F., MnF., MnF.:Cr", photoluminescence spectra, spectra
