Photoluminescence of the SrS:Mn^<2+>Phosphor and Pb^<2+>-Sensitized Luminescence of the SrS:Pb^<2+>,Mn^<2+>Phosphor

Emission and excitation spectra of the Mn" ton in the SrS:Mn" and SrS :Pb",Mn"phosphor are investigated at various temperatures. The analysis of the excitation spec-tra of the Mn" emission band leads to the Racah parameters B=7I2 cm ',C=3352 cm and the crystal field parameter Dq=516crn ' with the covalency-lparameter e = 0.046. By the transient spectroscopy technique, iC is found that the emis-sion band due to the single Mn" ion center has a peak at 553 nm and a decay timeof - 5.5 ms, while that due to the paired Mn" center has a peak at 565 nm and adecay time of 0.6 ms. Energy transfer from Pb"' Ton to Mn" Ton is observed inSrS:Pb",Mn". By observing the change of bancl shapes, the intensities and decaycharacteristics of both the Pb" and Mn" Iumimescence, it is concluded that thetransfer is of resonance type.
