Polariton Luminescence in Monoclinic ZnP_2 Crystal

Exciton poIaritor? luminescence and its temperature dependence have been investtgated in monoclinic ZnP. crystals. The energies of transverse and longitudinal excitons (E, and E,-) are determined by a fit of the reflection spectrum to a simplepolariton model. In the vicinity of the l.s exciton, txvo emission bands are observed atenergies E. and E. . They are attributed to the luminescence from loxver and upperbranch polarulons, respectively. In parlictular, the lower polariton luminescence bandexhtbits a well-defined doublet structure at 2 K. Both components are separated fromeach other by about ] meV with coxnparable intensities and the same polarizationdependence. With increasing temperature, the higher-energy component decreasesrapidly as compared to the lower-energy component.
