Two-Phonon Assisted Indirect Exciton Luminescence in α-ZnP_2

Luminescence spectra of tetragonal ZIlP2 crystal are rneastrred at various temperattrres. Be-low the indirect exciton threshold, about 30 intrinsic indirect exciton luxninescence bands areconfirmed. Amidst the broad bound exciton luraainescence band, several emission bands appeareven at 2 K. Intensities of these bands increase with increasing tetnperature, especially in thehigh energy part of the band. They are also intrinsic exciton ltrraainescence caused through theindirect exciton transition processes accornpauuied by two phonons at kn and A2 conserving theexciton wavevector; k.. : k) % A2. Energy difference between the lowest edges of one- andtwo-phonon lunainescence bands 59.4 meV is eqttal to the largest Ran'xan shift energy. Phononsparticipating in the luminescence are rnainly znonaenturn conserving phonons appearing in theone-phonon luminescence bands and the ones at the T point of the Brillouin zone.
