The atotr?ic structure and ttrnneling spectra of a cleaved strrface of a 2H-NbSe3 single crystalwere sttrdied by scanning ttrnneling microscopy at 4.2 K. SnaaI[ dorn?tins with 'VN x '? unodula-tion were f'otrnd adjacent to the flat surface with a 3 X 3 intrinsic charge density wave (COW), Thestrrface atozaa arrangerrtent in the domains is the saraae as th?tt in the 2H-type sttrface. The densityof states around the Fermi energy was naeastrred at the donaains by tunneling spectroscopy, andfound to be lower than that at the 2H-type strrf'ace. The '78 x t modulation is consideredto originate frona another CDW, whiclr can Tce expected to occtrr in 4H-NbSez clusters btmriedin a 2H-type crystal. The chant of the ttnnneling spectrtrna across the boundary between the2H-type sttrface and a 5 x V13 taaodtrlated dounain w?ts also me?tstrred, and th! proxirnity ofsuperconductivity of 2H type to the rnodtrlated dozaaain is discttssed.
