Strong Anisotropy of Transport Properties in Metamagnetic CePtAs

• We have synthesized CePtAs single crystals for the first time and f'otrnd that they crystallizewith a hexagonal GaGeLi-type crystal strtrcture. Magnetic and specific heat measurements onsingle crystals indicate that Cent's is an antiferrotnagnet with a N!el temperature of l K.The unagnetization curve at 0.54 K revealed that CePtAs exhibits a znetarnagnetic transitionalong both the a- and c-axes. Transport properties indicate a strong anisotropy. The electricalresistivity along the c-axis is Kondo-like, while it is uaaetatllic within the c-plane. The Hallconstant is negative for the naagnetic field within the c-plane, whereas it is positive for themagnetuc field along the c-axis. These results along with the resttlts on LaPtAs suggest thatCePtAs is a rare strongly-correlated electron systern accornpanied with an anisotropic Kondoeffect and metarnagnetic transition.
