Electron-Strain Interaction in Valence Fluctuation Compound SmB_6

Temperature dependence of the elastic constants in the valence fluctuation corn-pound of SmB. and the reference one of LaB. has been investigated by an ultrasonicmethod. The DC sputtering technique of a piezoelectric Zn0 film on SmB. has beenemployed for a reliable ultrasonic measurement free from bond breaks. A remarkablesoftening of the bulk modulus C. and an anomaly of the C.. mode in SmB. areresponsible for the interaction between the elastic strain and the narrow 4f-band statewith the energy gap of 160 K around the Fermi level.valence fluctuation, energy gap, SmB., LaB., ultrasound, Zn0 film
