Intensities and Doublet Separations of Forbidden Transitions in the Paramagnetic Resonance of Mn~<++> in the II-VI Compounds

The forbidden hyperfine transitions in the paramagnetic resonance spectrum of Mn^<++> are observed in single crystal and powder samples of cubic CdTe and CdSe. The data of the paramagnetic resonance observation on six chalcogenides of zinc and cadmium are summarized, and the intendity of the forbidden transition J and the separation of the forbidden doublet δH are discussed in terms of the covalence of the compund. It is shown that r_L/{(√<3>/4)α_o+α}, where rL represents the anion radius, α_o the lattice constant and α a correction term, is a useful parameter for the analysis of J and δH.
