"Forbidden" Transition in the Paramagnetic Resonance of Mn^<÷+> in ZnTe

The paramagnetic resonance spectra of Mn^<÷÷> in the cubic zincblend type crystal ZnTe have been observed by other authors. We observed the so-called "forbidden" lines with the transitions |ΔM:=1 and Δm=1 at the liquid nitrogen temperature, where M and m are the electronic and nuclear magnetic quantum numbers, respectively. The single crystal ZnTe doped with manganese of 0.9 atomic percent was placed on a bottom of cavity such as a (110) Plane of the crystal was in horizontal, and an external magnetic field was rotated in the plane. The ordinary hyperfine structure spectra, the six group transition lines with five satellite lines, were observed, and their line positions and intensities were explained well by the spin Hamiltonian 〓=gβS・H+A・I・S+V_<cryst>-g_Nβ_N・I・H (1) For exmple, an angular dependence of the separations of five satellites that belong to the nuclear quantum number m=-5/2 is shown in Fig. 1, in which the ordinate is the angle θ between the external magnetic field and the <001> direction of the crystal, and the abscissa is the line position in gauss. These separations are narrowest at θ of 31°, and at this position six sharp main lines and a pair of weak "forbidden" lines lying between each two sharp main lines are observed as shown in Fig. 2. The line positions except the forbidden lines are given by the equation^2 H(M・m)=H_0-Am/gβ-A^2/2g^2β^2H_0 ×[35/4-m^2+m(2M-1)]+a/384・g・β×(35cos^4θ-30cos^2θ+3+5sin^4θ・cos4φ ×(56M^3-84M^2-134M+81), (2) Where ψ=π/4.
