A new method for determining the lattice paranaeter using atomic beam diffraction is described.Using this tnethod, we have meastured the temperattrre dependence of the lattice parameter ofLiF(001). It was found that the value of the surface thermal expansion coefficient is higher by afactor of 3.6 than the bulk value for ternperatures up to 18O'C.
