X-Ray Study on the Successive Phase Transitions in Rb_2ZnBr_4

The successive phase transitions in Rb.ZnBr. are carefully examined by theX-ray diffraction. At the incoe phase transition tem-perature 7',=200 K, supercooling effect is observed together with the thermalhysteresis. Below T. = 108 K, the intensity of the (8 O 0) reflection decreases withdecreasing temperature, corresponding to the decrease of the spontaneous polari-zation in the o-direction. The space group below T.=8O K is suggested to beC ',-Pl cl or C 'J.-P2cm. The phase transition at T, = 50 K depends on the heatingrate.
