Structures of cubic and orthorhombic r>hases of lanzbeinite-t>rre K2MI12(S04)3have be<:n determined at 20'C and - 90'C by X-ray diffraction. Thermal parame..ters of ox>'sen atoms in the cubic rhase are remarkablv anisotropic and showunusuallv hinh values, whereas those in the orthorhombic r>hase are rather normal.The chanse in bond Iensths and anmles at the transition clarifies a rigid bodymotion of SO: gU0Up. It is concluded that the r>rincir>a[ structural chance at thecubic-orthorhombic transition is characterized bv orderins of sulfate groups.
