Optical and Dielectric Properties of K_2Mn_2(SO_4)_3

Dielectric and birefringence measurements have been made on K.Mn,(SO.).crystal. Anomalous temperattn"e dependence of the spontaneous birefringences isfotmd in D: phase (below -80'C). The differences of photoelastic coefficientsp.. -p.. and p.. -p.. arc determined by the static method to be both about 0.02at room temperature. Temperature dependence of the spontaneous birefringenceand dielectric susceptibility is analyzed on the basis of thermodynamic potentialproposed by Dvofak.
