Entropy-Theoretical Analysis of Glass Transitions in Binary Mixtures

The entropy theory of binary liquid mixture was extended to include the excess configurational entropy S^E_c, which reflects the degree of structural change on mixing. The S^E_c values were obtained for several hydrocarbon-hydrocarbon, alcohol-alcohol and amine-alcohol systems from their mole-fraction dependence of the glass transition temperatures and precise heat capacity data of the pure components. The liquid structures of the systems, especially those related to the formation of the hydrogen bonds, are discussed based on S^E_c.
