Heat capacities of SIl2P2S6 and S112P2S(26 single crystalz were tneasured at ten?perattnres be-tween 10 atnd 380 K for the foruner and between 10 and 350 K for the latter trsing an adiabaticcaloriraaeter. The heat capacity attounaly due to the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transitionoccurred at 337.25 :l: O.l0K ita SI12P2S6. The anouaaalies corresponding to the f'erroelectric-inconatnensurate and incountnenstrrate-paraelectric jclaase trstnsitions occurred at 193.24 i 0.10?tnd 220.07 :]::. O.l5K in SI12P2S66. The nortaaal treat capacities for the coraapotrrrds were esti-tnated by least sqtrares fitting of the Debye and Einstein ['trnctions to the experitaaental datastrpplenaented by spectroscopic nornaatl rnode freqtrencies. The etnounalous heat capacities gavethe phase transition entropies of' 8.6JK 'mol ' f'or Sl12P2S6 and 8.5 and l.5JK '11101 ' forSIl2P2S06. The large transition entropies ?xre consistent with an order-disorder mechaniszn forthe f'erroelectric-paraelectric phase transitions in SIl2P2S6 and Sl12P2SC6.
