Considerations on a Coefficient of Earth Pressure at Rest and the Elasto-Plastic Constitutive Equation

This paper describes the point at issue of the elastoplastic finite element (FE) analysis by means of modified Cam clay model, especially about the coefficient of earth pressure at rest K_0. A constant μ was taken in the plastic potential surface of modified Cam clay model in order to bring FE analysis result close to the laboratory test result. However, even if the value of a constant μ was varied, Cam clay model was not be able to evaluate the test result well. Accordingly, it was shown that the elastic analysis is better method rather than elasto-plastic analysis which is need in labor at present.
