It has become essential in excavation works in urban area the observational execution that based on the in-situ measurement of the site condition and the successive modefication of detailed design and execution methods. Bacause of the uncertinty in ground and design conditions, this approach is indispensable in view of secure execution of the work and of environmental preservation. This paper presents the execution process of Nagata open-cut tunnel work conducted in the city of Kobe at 1991,and considers technical issues concerning the observational execution developed in the work.
