Effects of Shearing Rate on Stress-Strain-Time Relationship of Diatomaceous Muddy Rock

This paper describes the results of a laboratory investigation of the mechanical behaviour of a diatomaceous muddy rock and an approximate solution for stress-strain relations induced strain softening phenomenon. The validity of the numerical model is examined by the results of undrained triaxial shear tests, and the limitations are discussed. It can be shown that the strain rate effect and strain softenings of muddy rock are controlled by the time dependence of the stress-strain relations.
