The reduction of 2, 6-dichlorophenolindophenol by reductic acid over a wide pH range (pH 2-12) was investigated using the stopped-flow method. 1) The apparent first-order constant, κapp, and the second-order rate constant, κ, were obtained. The κ-pH profile of reductic acid showed a similar pattern to that of triose reductone and L-ascorbic acid. 2) The kinetic characteristics of acid-reductones for seven kinds of reductones are shown according to the second-order rate constant, κ. The κ value for reductic acid is about half of that of L-ascorbic acid at pH 2.6 and the same at pH 7.0. From these results, it was demonstrated that a determination of reductic acid by the stopped-flow method is possible.
