The root of lonidiurn ipecacuanha VENT. (Hybanthus ipecacuanha (L.) BALL.) (Violaceae) is used for stomach and intestine diseases in Brazil. This drug was used once for the same purpose of root of Cephaelis ipecacuanha, although no emetine was found by authors. The fraction of tertiary bases of the extract has shown eight spots on paper electrogram by Dragendorff's reagent. Besides of those bases, one of the quaternary bases was proved to be choline. The anatomical study of this drug was also described.
