In screening of bioactive components in spices, and edible and medicinal plants, it was found that olive leaf (5% powdered feed, for 7d) possesses an inductive effect on mouse liver glutathione S-transferases (EC 2.5.1.18, phase II enzyme) and that oleuropein, a component of olive leaf, produces the same inductive effect, although not in a dose-dependent (200-400 mg/kg/d, for 5 d, orally) fashion.
