Phenolic Compounds from Forsythia Leaves (III) : On the Comparison of Constituents between Hybrid and Parents

Four lignans [phillygenin (1), (+)-epipinoresinol (2), arctigenin (3) and matairesinol (4)], four lignan glucosides [phillyrin (5), (+)-epipinoresinol-4"-β-D-glucoside (6), arctiin (7) and matairesinoside (8)], two phenylpropanoids [forsythiaside (9) and acteoside (10)] and one flavonoid [rutin (11)] were isolated from the leaves of Forsythia x intermedia ZABEL, a hybrid, whose parents are F. suspensa VAHL and F. viridissima LINDLEY. The profiles of the phenolic compounds in F. × intermedia and those of the parents, each having quite different phenolic compound profiles, were examined. All the major compounds in both of the parents occurred additively in the hybrid as major compounds.
