Leaves of Lycium chinense (Solanaceae) were dried by various methods and their concentrations of water-soluble components, i.e. chlorogenic acid, quercetin-3-O-sophoroside, kaempferol-3-O-sophoroside, lyciumoside-I, lyciumoside-II and lyciumoside-III, were assayed. Freeze-dried leaves gave the highest concentrations, and the best harvest time of Lycium chinense, on the basis of the concentrations of those components in the freeze-dried leaves was shown to be May when the concentrations of all the components except lyciumoside-II were the highest. All these component contents significantly decreased in August. The six water-soluble components were also detected in the flowers of the species.
