Growing Sapphire Single Crystals by the Vernouil Method Using Town Gas and Their Some Crystallographic Features

Glowing sapphire crystals by the Vernouil method using town gas instead of hydrogen gas were tried. It is known that small but good crystals are obtained in spite of a relatively rough control of gas pressures. [0001], [1010], and [1210] standard stereographic projections are constructed on the basis of calculated angles between various crystal plane of sapphire crystal. [0001] and [1120] etch pits and corresponding light figures of sapphire crystals are observed and it is shown that the orientation determination of them by the light-figure method can be made simply and accurately.
