On the Solution-Body Phenomenon and Anisotropy of Solution Rate in Zinc Crystal

The solution-body phenomenon and anisotropy of solution rate have been investigated on zinc single crystals as etched with concentrated nitric acid and with concentrated and dilute hydrochloric acids. A sphere crystal etched with concentrated nitric acid remained as a sphere, indicating that the solution rate is isotropic. While, circular-rod crystals etched with concentrated and with dilute hydrochloric acids produced clear-cut solution bodies characteristic to their orientations. The relations of shapes of those solution bodies to crystal directions show that the solution rates are in the order of V<;1120>>V<hki0>>V<1010>>V<1011>>;V<0001>V<1121> It is shown that this series of solution rates is also valid for the solution of zinc crystal in dilute sulphuric acid.
