On the Solution-Body Phenomenon and Anisotropy of Solution Rate in Tetragonal Tin Crystal

• The solution-body phenomenon and anisotropy of solution rate has been examined with tetragonal tin crystals, of circular-rod and sphere forms, as etched with concentrated hydrochloric acid or with aqua regia. A clear-cut solution body was produced only with an originally spherical crystal etched with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The relation between the form and dimension of this solution-body and crystal directions indicates that the series of solution rate in tetragonal tin crystal in concentrated hydrochloric acid is in the order of V_<h_1k_10> V_<110>>V_<h_20l_2>>V_<100>, V_<001>>V_<h_3h_3l_3> the mean solution rates V_<110>, V_<001>, V_<{101}>, and V_<100> being in a ratio of 1.13 : 1.08 : 1.05 : 1.00. It has also been found that this series of solution rate is valid in the case of etching with aqua regia.
