Further Studies on the Orientation Determination of Cubic Metal Crystal Rods by the Light-Figure Method

General considerations have been made with reference to the accurate and perfect orientation determination of cubic metal crystal rods by the light-figure method. The factors affecting the precision, the accurately determinable ranges of orientation angles, and the kind and number of applicable light figures or of accurately determinable angles are fully explained and the formulae for the geometrical relationships required for the calculation of the principal orientation angles from measured values of any two orientation angles referred to the tetragonal axes are also given. The results of considerations have been confirmed by the experiments on single crystal rods of iron-aluminium alloys containing less than 6 percent aluminium and it is shown that the orientation determination by light figures of these alloy crystal rods can be made with a precision well within 1°.
