Resolution Correction for Time-of-Flight Neutron Scattering Experiments Using the Monte Carlo Method

A new efficient method has been proposed for convolution of the neutron scattering cross section with instrumental resolution of the inelastic time-of-flight spectrometer at pulsed neutron sources. This method has several advantages over the conventional analytical formulation of the resolution function commonly used for the triple-axis spectrometers at steady reactors, not only because of its flexibility and capability for more realistic representation of the origin of the instrumental broadening, but also because of its higher efficiency of computation.
