The first order magnetic transition of spiral to ferromagnetic structure of Dy-4%Yalloy, which is induced by both temperature and magnetic field, has been investigatedby means of X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurement. The development ofthe ferromagnetic phase could be studied by X-ray diffraction measurement for theobservation of the hexagonal to orthorohmbic crystal distortion accompanying thefirst order magnetic transition. Below T., the ferromagnetic and spiral phases coexistdown to 10 K and the latter was found to be in a meta-stable state. The developmentof the ferromagnetic phase induced by both temperature and magnetic field exhibits atime dependent behavior and is proportional to log t.
