Three psychological tests, namely, the Rorschach test, the picture frustration study and the sentence completion test were carried upon application of the electromyography-biofeedback treatment (EMG-BFT) to ten patients with alopecia areata. There were three males and seven females of their age ranging from 11 to 36 years, 21 years and 7 months of the average. They were grouped by diseases to 6 cases of the multiple type, 2 cases of the total type (alopecia totalis), and 2 cases of the universal type (alopecia universal is). Six cases were noted useful, all of them being of the multiple type. The mean term of treatment in the useful cases was 4.3 months, wherein EMG-BFT was applied 8.8 times in the average. As the result of this study EMG-BFT was considered to be meaningful as one of the treatments for alopecia areata. It was suggested as the etiology of alopecia areata that the mental factor is greatly participated in a certain type. As the result of psychological tests, it was suggested possible that there exist some specific characters in common in alopecia areata.
