Effects of Lower Hybrid Wave Heating on Alpha-Particle Confinement in a Tokamak

Effects of lower hybrid wave (LHW) heating on alpha particle confinementin a large tokamak such as TFTR are investigated numerically. By use of asingle particle code which includes the interaction with LOW, the diffusioncoefficients of the particles in real and magnetic moment spaces are evaluated.The characteristic reature or the wave-particle interaction is that the alpha particlesinteract with the wave almost whole poJoidaI cross-section due to their largeLarmor radii. It is found that LOW heatinu causes sratial diffusion as well asvelocity diffusion and the characteristic time of orbit loss due to thediffusion of the alpha particles with rather large banana width is of the order ofor shorter than their slowing-down time.
