Positional Behaviour of the Plasma Column in a Shell-Less Octopole Tokamak

A plasma column with a D-shaped cross sectj.on was produced in an octopolemagnetic field. When the initial vertical position of the plasnna column was on theequatorial plane of the torus, no vertical displacement occured. When the initial verticalposition was above that plane, however, a vertical displacement occured as the columnshifted horizontally. Thus, it was demonstrated that the initial vertical position of theplasma column should be carefully adjusted to reduce the vertical displacement.
