Electron-Phonon Coupling Constant of BaPb_<1-X>Bi_xO_3 as Estimated from the McMillan Equation

The McMillan's electron-phonon coupling constant 2 was calculated by theMcMiIlan-Alien-Dynes equation from the available experimental results, includ-ing measurements on resistivity, Hall coefficient, Seebeck coefficient, specificheat and plasma reflectivity. A simple single band was assumed to obtain theelectron-electron repulsion coefficient p' by the Morel-Anderson equation. Thecoupling constant 2 increases with bismuth content x, reaching 1.15 to 1.32 atx=O.2 where T. is 10.7 K, indicating that BaPb. .Bi.0, is a strong-couplingsuperconductor in spite of its reported low density of states N(E.). The value2/N(E.) of this material was found out to be extremely large if compared withconventional high T. superconductors. Furthermore the metal-semiconductorphase transition observed in this system is suggested to be induced as the resultof the strong electron-phonon interaction.
