NMR Studies on Spin-Gap Behavior of Monoclinic CuNb_2O_6

• The NIVIR Knight shi['t and tlae spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/'Z'l have lceen uneastrred at Nbsites in two polymorphs of' quasi one-dinuensional zig-zag spin chain compotrnds CuNb3O(5. Theteznperatvnre ('Z') dependence of NNIR-l/It of' the taronoclinic CtrNbzOc; indicates tl'xe existenceof spin excitation gap (spin gap) xvluose r'taagnittrde ("20 K) is consistent with tlae restrlt ofother kinds of raaeastrrernents. The difl'erence of the V'-dependences lcetxveen I/T?T and K issinailar to that well-knowta for high-V'c oxides. A sinattltaneotms groxving of tlae antif'errottaagneticand the singlet correlation has been observed xvitla decreasing T at arottnd the tenaperattrre ofthe susceptibility unaxiuntrm (>2OK). Results of the NIVIR raaeastrreztaents for the orthorhonabicCtuNbxOe;, which undergoes an antiferronaagtaetic transition at abotut 7.3 K, are also presented.
