Electronic rror>erties of L2L1.l7 .SI.VS3.17, which trnder:oes a clear t>hase transition at ;xroundx x 0.17 (or at the V-valency of 83) xvith decreasing temperattrre T to a nonrnagnetic grotrndstate, have been investigated by "V-NIlvIR as a ftrnction of the Sr-concentratuon x. The re-taxation rate divided by T, 1/V'1'Z' seetns to Ice aluaaost T-indepet'ndent for all samples sttrdnedhere (0.0<r<0.35) above the phase tranasition ter'taperatvtre and becouaaes maxinatrtn at arovrndx = 0.17. Below the transition, I/TnT exhibits activation-type behavior except tlae very lowteraaperattrre region where the ]-dependence is rntrch weaker. Tlae activation energy decreasesrapidly with increasing x in the region of the V-valency larger than 43. The l/'Z'1V' valtres ofthe sarnples with x arotrnd 0.17 becorne nearly eqtral to zero at loxv ternperatures, indicatingtltat their spin susceptibilities vanish alnaost conapletely. It strggests that the transxtuon to theraonrnagnetic grotrnd state is driven by a singlet foruaaation with rather local nature. A plausiblemodel of the transition is proposed to explain the present restults and those of other kinds studuesreported previotrsly.
