Thermal Properties of Two Dimensional Mott System La_<1.17-x>Sr_xVS_<3.17>

Experimental studies on physical properties of the two dimensional strongly correlated electronsystem La).)7 .Sr.VS3.)7 have been carried out. In the .111 region around 0.17, where the Vvalency is x 43, the system is considered to be in a Mott insulating phase. With increasing xup to the region >0.3, it becomes essentially metallic. Measurements of the thermal dilatationand the ultrasonic velocity have presented experimental evidence that a certain type of latticedistortion is involved in the phase transition observed previously by rnagnetid,studies for sampleswith x x 0.17. The electronuc specific heat coefficxent y seems not to be,enhanced as the systemapproaches the metal-insulator phase boundary frorn the metallic side.
