Transport and Magnetic Properties of La_3Ni_2O_<7-δ>and La_4Ni_3O<10-δ>

• Metal-insulator transitions of La3Ni3O7 ,5 and La.jNi3Ojg ,S with layered structure have beenstudied. Transport and magnetic measurements up to 1000 K have revealed an existence ofthe sharp transition in both systems at 550 K from a tnetallic but less conducting state withlocalized spins at INN sites to the Pauli paramagnetic and more conducting one with increasingtemperature. The transition is explained by a model that the Molt transition takes place inthe "half-filled" band of 3d3.x .2 orbitals at the temperattnre, and that below the temperature,the conduction of the electrons in the 3d.w .2 band is distturbed by the Hund coupling with thelocalized electrons in the 3d3.w .2 band.
