Neutron Scattering Investigation of Static Critical phenomena in the Two-Dimensional Antiferromagnets:Rb_2Co_CMg_1-_cF_4

We have studied the critical behavior of the two-dimensional site-randomantiferromagnet Rb.Co.Mg. .F. using neutron elastic and qttasi-elastic scatteringtechniques. The variation with temperature of the intensity of the magnetic Braggreflections shows a considerable rounding of the t?=ansition. Assuming a Gaussiandistribution of transition temperature, we have determined the average N<Settemperature<I.>and the degree of distribution of N<Set temperature o, and thecritical exponent 73 in a series of compounds with c=l.0, 0.98, 0.97, 0.95, 0.89and 0.82. The experimental data have been analysed to give tone inverse correlationlength and the susceptibility in the compounds witla c= l .0, 0.97 and 0.89 using thedetermined values of<I.>arxd o. The resulting values of the critical exponentsfi, v, 7 and 7/ are found to coincide with the exact theoretical values for the two-dimensional Ising model within the experimental errors, and are independent ofthe concentration of nonmagnetic impurities.
