An analytical method is presented, on the basis of a discrete rnodel, for evaltration of thepotential barrier to be strrmounted when the stable comrnensurately naodu[ated structttre isdisplaced by one fat,Lice distance. A concrete exaraaple is given f'or the case where there occurs aphase transition lcetween two commensurate phases with the S&l1l(12 naodtrlatiort period.
