Exact Expressions of Third-Order Nonlinear Susceptibility in Finite Ferroelectric Systems Based on the Tilley–Zeks Model

• The third-order nonlinear susceptibility $\chi_{3}$ in the paraelectric phase of finite ferroelectrics is theoretically studied on the basis of the Tilley–Zeks model. Using exact polarization profiles under an applied field, exact expressions of $\chi_{3}$ can be derived. It has turned out that $\chi_{3}$ in finite systems diverges as ($\alpha-\alpha_{\text{c}})^{-4}$ similarly to that in infinite systems, where $\alpha$ and $\alpha_{\text{c}}$ represent the temperature and transition temperature, respectively.
