Optical Constants and Polarization-Dependent Reflection Spectra of CdCl_2 and CdBr_2 Single Clystals

Optical constants of CdCl. and CdBr. at room and liquid helium temperattu'eshave been determined in the region 4-1 l eV for ordinary m'ay from reflectionspectra of the cleaved stn'faces. The structures near the optical gap in the opticalconductivity spectra are interpreted in terms of the optical transitions occuringat the T r>oint in the Brillouin zone. The interrretation has been confirmed bythe measurements of the polarization-dependent reflection spectra of the polishedstu'faces parallel to the c axis. The structtu'es in the deep interband energy regionare related to the transitions at the Z point on the basis of their polarizationdependence.
