Excition Relaxation Processes into the UV-States in CdI_2 : Br Mixed Crystals

Emission intensities, lifetimes and their temperature dependence of the UV-emis-sion in the CdI.:Br mixed crystals were investigated from 1.7 to 50 K by varying theBr concentration and the excitation energy. The UV-emission is observed in theregion between 3.30 and 3.45 eV and diminishes as increasing the concentration ofCdBr.. The UV-emission decays with three exponential components: r.=83 ?s,r.= 24 jts and r.= 2.3 ps at 1.7 K. It has been proved that the initial state of the r.-component and that of the r.- and m.-components are quite distinct from each other.In order to explain the present experimental results three exciton relaxation processesinto the UV-states are proposed, that is, the tunneling and the thermal activation pro-cesses from the bottom of the indirect free exciton band and the direct process fromthe upper states of excitons.
